Description of work: The primary purpose of the WIC program is to provide food and nutrition
education to
low income pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children until age five as
an adjunct
to good health care during critical times of growth and development. This position provides WIC
management
and clinical support, services to applicants and participants with Limited English
Proficiency, breastfeeding
promotion, support and education. Will assist with translation of forms, notices, nutrition
education, and other
materials from English to Spanish as requested. Normal working hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am
to 5:00
pm. Work requires excellent communication skills (English and Spanish), the ability to work with
staff and
clients, employing courtesy, tact and sensitivity. The person in this position may be asked to
attend educational
meetings and workshops after clinic hours. Other duties may be assigned to the worker
when deemed
necessary by the Supervisor. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the
job.
Education and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED) with two years’
experience in interpreting/translating English and Spanish in a setting that requires knowledge of
the
programs or services. Experience working in an office or medical office setting is preferred.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation:
Successfully complete NC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Core Training. Must possess a valid
unencumbered
Driver’s License.
Salary: Grade 62- $30,464.00 (FLSA Status – Non-Exempt)
Emergency Shelter Operations: The individual in this position has responsibilities for staffing and
providing assistance when public health or emergency shelter plans are implemented
