Children’s Services
Child Protective Services are legally mandated for county departments of social services to receive, screen, and provide services for juveniles alleged to be abused, neglected, or dependent. These services: Provide placement in a safe home (relatives or foster care) if children are at risk of harm. Make a prompt and thorough investigation to ascertain the facts of the situation, the extent of the injury or condition resulting from alleged abuse, neglect, or dependency, and the risk of harm to the child to determine whether protective services are required. Provide services to familes to increase safety measures that prevent removal of children from their homes whenever possible. Collaborate with community agencies who serve the needs of children and families to ensure that appropriate services are provided when available. Monitor and supervise case progress while planning and coordinating services to children and families.
Adult Services
Adult Protective Services are legally mandated for county departments of social services to provide services to disabled adults who are alleged to be abused, neglected, or exploited. These services: Support for care givers of disabled adults and referrals to appropriate agencies to stop abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Make a prompt and thorough evaluation to ascertain the facts of the situation, the extent of injury or condition resulting from abuse, neglect, or exploitation, and the risk involved to determine whether protective services are required. Provide placement assistance if the adult is willing to accept services and a risk of harm. Collaborate with community agencies to ensure that appropriate services are provided when available and accepted by the disabled adult.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; or Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of
social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); or Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; or Master’s degree in a human services field and one year of directly
related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related
experience; or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.
