Description of work: This position is responsible for taking applications, determining eligibility and maintaining cases for any and all of the following Income Maintenance programs: Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Adult Medicaid, Family and Children’s Medicaid. This includes interviewing the customer, verifying information, determining eligibility, maintaining the record, and making changes to the record. This position requires the ability to communicate with applicants and the public at large to obtain data and to explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures. The worker in this position must have excellent computer skills and have the ability to read and interpret policy, job aides and change notices in the automated system of NCFAST. The employee must be a team player, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
Other duties may be assigned to the worker when deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
Education and Experience: One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker I. Will accept applications for Income Maintenance Caseworker I at Salary Grade 61 working against Income Maintenance Caseworker II (these requirements include: Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.)
Course work at a Community College, Business or Technical School or course work at a four-year college or university may be substituted for general experience on a year for year basis for this class, but not for experience in an Income Maintenance Program.
Salary: Grade 63 ‐ $31,360 (Non-Exempt)
Emergency Shelter Operations: The individual in this position has responsibilities for staffing and providing assistance when public health or emergency shelter plans are implemented.
