Description of Work: This position will develop, plan and coordinate a comprehensive health and wellness program for older adults in the County, including Senior Games, health maintenance programs, educational seminars, fitness programs, and exercise programs. Duties will include health promotional activities such as teaching exercise classes, overseeing the fitness room, and managing contracted fitness instructors. Position includes developing, planning and implementing the Senior Games program; providing a comprehensive health education program for older adults which will include: teaching evidence based programs and other
seminars, participating in various committee related to health education, participating in community events, helping to write grants to fund health and wellness programming. This position will also serve as back up for the Events Coordinator and participate in the Senior Center certification process. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration, program objectives, and standards in the area of assignment. The ability to initiate and install administrative programs and procedures to evaluate their effectiveness. The ability to plan, assign, establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency personnel, officials, and the general public.
Working knowledge of the aging process, psychosocial aspects of aging, and understanding the needs of the older adult; Working knowledge of the most common diseases and/or functional disorders of the aging. Physical ability to stand for long periods of time, use fitness equipment, teach exercise classes, regularly liftup to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 20 – 50 pounds.
Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have or be willing to obtain CPR/AED/1st Aid certification. Must possess a valid unencumbered Driver’s License.
Hourly: Grade 67 – Entry Level $39,269 (FLSA Status – Non-Exempt) Note that this position is a 12
month temporary position.
Emergency Shelter Operations: The individual in this position has responsibilities for staffing and providing assistance when public health or emergency shelter plans are implemented
